World Masters Golf

Wait, is "masters" a verb or a noun here?

Genre: sports - golf

Publisher: Virgin

Year: 1995

System: SNES PAL

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Weird control scheme. Choosing the direction is by far the worst part of it. You have to press Select and then Y to bring up the overhead view where you can find tune the direction. In the regular view you can also change direction but it's done with a tiny cursor that moves too far on a single click. The other weirdness is that you can't adjust spin. Other options like fade have a gauge but I couldn't figure out how to change it. Despite these complaints the core gameplay and physics work fine. It's a slow game like the EA titles, but not bad.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Practice, Tournament, and Match Play modes. Four courses.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Some nice features like a flyover before each hole. Attractive menus. Still, it's a stuffy golf game

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

The main view is fine with good color and some details. After hitting the ball you get a horrible mode 7 flight of the ball that's more disorienting than helpful. Not cute

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

Reggae music. Definitely a boomer golf game

Overall Score: 55
