Aaahh!! Real Monsters

Monster Sink

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Viacom

Year: 1995

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Responsive movement, if a little floaty. Lag when pressing action buttons like attack/throw, jump, and whatever the "trio" button is supposed to do. Trio button is different for each character but doesn't work 80% of the time. Mostly just allows you to jump slightly higher to ledges just out of reach. Annoying Switch between three characters but they play identically aside from one is tall and one can't jump high. Typically awful hit detection. Ever heard of i-frames? Enemies pop out for cheap hits

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Go to the right Very unappealing Platforming is bad because of platforms too high to reach. Plays a bit like Lost Vikings, but with terrible design.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

Not familiar with the cartoon, and I'm not eager to learn more. Super ugly setting - sewer, garbage, rats, eww

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Flat artwork - looks like a 1992 game rather than a late gen 1995 game Far more colorful and vibrant than the Genesis version. Ugly characters but it was an early 90s gross out cartoon

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Honestly the music sets the tone well Sound effects are obnoxious and seem to have a delay

Overall Score: 43
