Burning Force for Genesis

Burning Force

G.I. Joe (arcade) meets Space Harrier

Genre: shooter - corridor

Publisher: Namco

Year: 1990

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Two levels grounded like the G.I. Joe arcade game followed by a level and boss fight flying around like Space Harrier. A few powerups like a wide shot, laser, and wave beam. Limited use missiles. Controls well. Down slows, up speeds up, and of course left and right move. Fun

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Simple levels. Again there's variety with two ground, one air, then one bonus level in each area.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Blue haired anime girl on a hoverbike.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Pretty simple even for an early release. Still it all scales well and it's almost nauseatingly colorful.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Simple music which only uses a couple of channels and a small set of sounds. Still it's well composed and matches the 70s anime style of the visuals. Sound effects are simple 80s video gamey sounds.

Overall Score: 71

Review ID: 808
