Cratermaze
aka Booby Boys on NES and GBGenre: arcade - n/a
Publisher: NEC
Year: 1990
System: TurboGrafx-16
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Bomberman with holes instead of bombs. Also one of the easiest games I've ever played. This is an action puzzle game for the kids. Dig holes which enemies step into. Fill them up to kill the enemies. Collect all treasure chests to reveal a key and then go to the exit. Simple, concise, easy to understand, and fun.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Every level is the same but with slight variations. Very similar to Bomberman single player mode. Good stuff, but not something I'd come back to frequently
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Fun, bouncy characters. Bright, colorful graphics. A cute little animation plays at the start of each level. However, there's not much here, to be honest
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
A step below Bomberman. Like a slightly updated Dig Dug, graphics wise.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Pleasant music and sounds

When you play this game on “normal” mode it is boring. There’s only two enemies on screen. On “difficult mode” which is an option on the title menu, there’s many more enemy types with different sprites (like a bank robber or a mailman, or an invulnerable robot that doesn’t fall into holes). In difficult mode you can fall into your own holes though.
