David Robinson's Supreme Court

Line drive basketball

Genre: sports - basketball

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

So bad it's good gameplay. Passing works ok. They give you an indicator for who it's going to go to. Reminds me a lot of Wii Sports basketball to be honest. Players run around quickly and can be eluded sometimes, unlike the early EA stuff. The key to success is to get the ball into the paint and shoot. I rarely hit a shot outside the paint but got it every time within. View is isometric and it flips at halfcourt which is awkward and disorienting. This only adds to the weirdness of the game. Again, so bad it's good.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition or tournament. A settings for difficulty and players per team. Yup, you can play 3v3. Nifty inclusion. Unfortunately you have to pick your team sandlot style EVERY time you play. What a chore! This is a truly baffling design choice that nearly ruins the experience.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

David Robinson is on the title screen but nowhere else. Uhh... Only 4 generic teams to select but again you have to pick your players anyway. What the heck?

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Laughable. Hilariously bad. Players look ridiculous but the real fun is how the ball travels in a straight line when being passed or shot. There's no arch to it at all. I laughed every time. Again, so bad it's good.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

It's a simple beat. Sounds like early Genesis stuff
