Death and Return of Superman
You'd think Superman would be more...SuperGenre: action - beat em up
Publisher: Sunsoft
Year: 1994
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Enemies take off SO MUCH HEALTH. It's so annoying. Poor hit detection. You have to be on the exact plane as the enemy to register a hit but they can be a bit higher or lower so you have to run around. Enemies take a lot more hits than they should. Movement is ok. You can fly, punch, jump, and grab and throw enemies. Oh and you can shoot eye lasers but they do no damage that I can tell and you're vulnerable for a long time. Flying is completely pointless in combat - it's only used for a few vertical sections of movement.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Incredibly boring, repetitive levels. All levels have two or three enemies that are repeated over and over. The Chainsaw guys are especially annoying. Like really annoying.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Frankly, I find Supes to be the dumbest superhero and his games to be the worst. Most are objectively terrible but even this one is bad because you're Superman for crying out loud! Why would a goon with a chainsaw be able to take you down in four hits? Uggh
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Very nice sprites and animation. Blizzard was talented even back then. The backgrounds arent terrible interesting but hey have nice parallax scrolling
