Equinox for SNES

Equinox

The Legend of Zelda starring Aladdin

Genre: adventure - overhead

Publisher: Sony

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Isometric view is tolerable but not my favorite. Controls are simplified by only showing 4 directions of movement. Yeah, like the principal Zelda game. Many jumps require precision that's made difficult by the camera view. So it's good but could've been better. Throwing weapons is ok but you can only have one dagger on screen at a time so you have to make sure it hits the target or else you're a sitting duck for a second. Controls are not responsive so you have to be very careful and deliberate in your movement.

Level Design Score: 5

Level Design Notes:

Eight dungeons connected by a large connected overworld. Each dungeons is maze like and has a series of rooms that can be cleared of enemies and puzzles. Sound familiar? Yeah, this game has seriois Zelda vibes, but that's mostly a good thing.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Arabian Nights theme is ok. The puzzle solving and The connected overworld and dungeon design make the game very inviting. I want to continue.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Very nice, colorful, expressive graphics. Character models are also very nice. The ghosts which are the most common enemy look a bit out of place. They look like Pac-man ghosts

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

Very very very good stuff. Incredibly atmospheric stuff. Loved the music and sounds that I heard.

Overall Score: 77
