Final Fantasy III
The best Final Fantasy everGenre: rpg - japanese
Publisher: Squaresoft
Year: 1994
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 5
Gameplay Notes:
The addition of casting spells against all enemies improved upon an already perfect battle system. The espers makes for a lot of grinding but it has an understandable purpose. It's not as confusing as the class system from FFV and other similar games which have so little personality.
Level Design Score: 5
Level Design Notes:
Even more spectacular scenarios and sequences. There are a few forgettable ones, like anything involving Mog, Umaro, and Gau. However there's so much variety! One of the deepest 16 bit games ever.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
Terra's story isn't quite up there with Cecil's. In fact, this game throws so many characters at you that it's hard to care about them all or even pick a favorite. They each take a turn as the focus of the story which is nice...but feels less connected than the previous game. The story loses all direction in the ruined world.
Art Style Score: 5
Art Style Notes:
Impeccable sprites and creature designs. Some of the best artwork in an SNES game
Audio Score: 5
Audio Notes:
The best SNES soundtrack ever. Probably the best video game soundtrack ever.
Overall Score: 99
