Gameplay

Two button controls - jump and attack. For the most part you just mash on attack, but there are other mechanics, like a jump kick, flying knee kick, a spinning attack and grabbing, throwing, and pile driving enemies. Adds a bit of variety to otherwise monotonous gameplay.
Enemies sort of take turns attacking instead of swarming and all attacking at once.
Lots of environmental hazards - some which just get in your way like staircases but there are also fires and other things that actually hurt you.
Only a one-player experience. Really misses out on not supporting multiplayer.

Level Design

Nice design of the stages. They're simple but each have a distinct theme, like a normal street in broad daylight, a seedy section of town later in the day, an industrial area up on a catwalk, in a highrise building, etc. The bonus stages where you break a car and smash glass are iconic and fun diversions.

Theme

Generic but iconic. Metro City needs a protector and you're it. Gotta save the lovely Jessica!

Art Style

This is where the game shines. Large sprites (not as large as they should be) which are drawn extremely well. It's an early SNES title and it shows but still, the graphics are colorful, clean, and nice to look at even now.

Audio

Nice music that won't stick with you but fits the setting of the game well. The sounds are superb, with satisfying crunches and groans.
