King of the Monsters 2

Is it wrestling or is it 1v1?

Genre: fighting - wrestling

Publisher: Takara

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Hold on a second. This is totally different than the SNES and NeoGeo versions. This is a 1v1 fighting game with a little bit of wrestling. Moves mixed in. But you don't have to pin the opponent, you just get their lifebar down like any other fighting game. The gameplay is extremely stiff but it's much faster than the previous game. I only figured out a couple of special moves and they're hard to hit an enemy with because of how deep the arena is. Most fights devolved into a normal puncher kick and that grappling that wrestling fans love so much. It's definitely different than the other games in the series. I can't say that it's a good 1v1 fighting game. Insanely high difficulty.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

The fighting rings have a little less going on in them. Tokyo has all the city stuff to step on, but some of the other arenas are pretty stark.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Smashing action figures together is always a good time

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Visuals are greatly improved over the original. Sprites are large, well-drawn, and animate well. The backgrounds don't have much going on, especially when compared to the other versions of this title. I like the character models as well. Colors are muted

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Again, greatly improved over the original. Kinda weird stuff but it fits the game's cartoony theme.

Overall Score: 45
