Legendary Axe II, The
Speedo CastlevaniaGenre: action - hack n slash
Publisher: NEC
Year: 1990
System: TurboGrafx-16
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
Very similar to the first game. Plays even more like ActRaiser's platforming sections since your weapon is now a sword. You can trade it for a chain or an axe but the sword has the longest reach. In any case, it's again a responsive hack and slash game with a jump that's a bit unforgiving. That said, jumping is nice because you can hold down to leap almost the entire length of the screen. Platforming is a bit easier than in the original. Thankfully, there are far fewer flying enemies. There's also far less health and health drops so the game is fairly challenging.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Levels are much more interesting that the original. They've got some verticality and require a lot of platforming. Good stuff. On the negative side, boss fights aren't terribly interesting and there aren't a lot of different enemies.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
You're an Egyptian looking dude wearing a speedo. Hmm. I preferred the caveman from the original.
Art Style Score: 4

Great all around. The backgrounds have interesting details and the sprites are simple but attractive.
