Lion King for SNES

Lion King

I laugh in the face of danger

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Virgin

Year: 1994

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Same engine as Jungle Book but with refinements that make it more usable. Camera isn't perfect but is much much better Same problem with the incredibly finicky platforming by swinging on ropes with tiny hit boxes. In Jungle Book it was vines, in this game it's hippo tails. Major momentum problems. If you jump from a standstill then you can barely move laterally - you have to get a running start. Very annoying. Nothing to collect, thank you. Just platforming. Hard as nails.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Variety in the first three levels. The first level is a labyrinth, the second is a quicktime event, and the third is a "go-right" level

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Decent presentation of the movie. Everyone likes the movie right? And I'm talking about the original cartoon, not the live action abomination that made way too much money.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Wonderful animation. Heavy use of pastel colors. Looks like they only used Genesis palette of colors Everything blends together. Hard to pick out platforms, obstacles, enemies from the background. Unreadable HUD. No idea how much health I have.
