Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for Genesis

Michael Jackson's Moonwalker

It's bad. It's bad. You know it

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1990

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Responsive controls. Boring gameplay. Just walk left, right, up stairs, jump, and attack. Everyone dies in one hit so no much challege either. Then again there's only one enemy. The Foot Clan in this game are a neverending supply of men in black. There's also a magic attack but it's an oddity more or less there so you can clear the screen of enemies.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Everything seems to be the same interior of a building. There are Castlevania-style stairs to climb and doors that you have to open which have either an enemy or a hostage. All levels end after collecting all hostages. So yeah it's one of those games. Every level looks, feels, and plays like the last one.

Theme Score: 0

Theme Notes:

Truly bizarre theme. This was obviously a vanity project from one of the biggest egos of all time. The self proclaimed King of Pop wanders around a bar using his dance moves to rescue kidnapped children from men in black suits. Michael's probably not the only child start to have this exact fantasy, but it's straight up disturbing to participate in and cringey to watch.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Typical early Genesis stuff. The sprites look and animate alright but are quite simple. Think Rolling Thunder but without faces. Backgrounds are sparse and every level looks the same.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Credit where credit is due. The music is a set of melodies from Jackson's greatest hits, and listening to them is easily the highlight of the game. Sound effects are few and far between but they're alright.

Overall Score: 57
