Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Fighting Edition

A Voltron by any other name plays as sweet

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Bandai

Year: 1995

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Plays like the SFC Gundam fighting game with the huge mechs battling with lightsabers and rocket arms and other over the top moves. Great fun Each button maps to what feels like a special move. Makes you feel powerful. Special moves exist as well, like the standard shoryuken Super easy game for the kids. Just my speed Button mapping options are hilarious. The four face buttons each map to Attack A, B, C, or D.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Story mode only has two characters to choose. Versus mode plus a Trial mode that lets you play as any character including bosses.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

MMPR is the dumbest show I've ever seen. How a goofy 70s Japanese show took off in America is beyond me. As good as this game is it's still hard to admit that it's a fun game

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Bonkers character designs As dumb as the source material may be I love the visuals. The sprites are enormous and animated beautifully. The effects are top notch as well

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Finally a fighting game with music that gets you going. The music is catchy which I regret almost immediately as it gets stuck in my head but I enjoy it while playing. The sound effects are loud and satisfying which makes for a visceral gaming experience

Overall Score: 75
