Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
The worst MMPR gameGenre: fighting - 1v1
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1994
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
One of the slowest 1v1 fighters I've played. Incredibly slow, stiff, unresponsive movement. Limited moveset. Only a couple of special moves - a projectile and an uppercut. And only two attack buttons - normal and fierce. Enemy blocks virtually all your attacks and has a much longer reach than you. Bad hit detection. Truly awful gameplay.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Each fight has two phases - as a human ranger and then as the Megazord (a kaiju fight). I got a little excited during the cutscene showing before the Megazord fight. I was hoping for massive sprites like MMPR the Fighting Game on SNES. But no, the Megazord sprite is tiny and has the same limited moves as the human fighter. Boo
Theme Score: 1
Theme Notes:
Super cheesy presentation. Extensive cutscenes with cringey dialogue. All the dorkiness of Power Rangers with none of the fun from the SNES games.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Nice use of color. Some well drawn backgrounds. Teeny tiny sprites. They're about half the size of MK or SF2 or really anything else. And even the Megazord and kaiju monsters are the same size. It's comical.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Ok music but it and the sound effects are horrible quality.
Overall Score: 24
