Mike Ditka Power Football

Turn based football

Genre: sports - football

Publisher: Accolade

Year: 1991

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Has the weirdest throwing mechanic I've seen in a football game. Pressing a stops the play and lets you cycle through the open receivers and pick which one you want. Press B or C to unstop the play and you'll throw to the guy you selected. You can take as long as you want on the selection screen which just feels wrong. You go down at the slightest bit of contact so running plays really don't work. Movement is okay but lateral speed is very slow so unless you can go straight up you won't get any yardage.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition and playoffs mode only

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

No NFL but all 28 teams

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Looks like an Atari arcade game with solid colors and some decent animation. However, the animation on screen doesn't match what happens so often a receiver will catch the ball but it will look like it bounces off the ground.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

There's a really dumb song that repeats every 5 seconds that you can thankfully turn off. Sound effects aren't too bad, but again don't match up with the action on screen. They're delayed by a second or two.
