Mutant League Football

Madden for monsters

Genre: sports - football

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

7 on 7 gameplay The gimmick of course is the monster player, character models and the over the top tackles and whatnot. The gameplay itself is pretty janky. Movement is good but feels a bit sluggish. Most plays only net a couple yards to maybe 20 at most. So drives are very long and labored. There also, are very few plays to choose from. Far fewer than a typical Madden game. There are some other kitchen features like bribing, the rafts or strange plays that let you jump 30 yards, but otherwise it's a pretty standard football game.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Exhibition or playoffs The only settings are game speed (normal or fast) and death index (higher means more death animations).

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

So the the theme is obviously the selling point here it's a cut down seven on seven football game, but because it has monsters, blood loving each other, it's kind of fun to play.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

The character models are fun. There are many different examples of players so they don't all look identical like so many other sports games. However, the animation is atrocious which takes a lot of the fun out of the artwork. It looks much better in still screenshots then it does in motion.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

The music is really loud and air guitar-ish but has terrible sound quality. Everything about the sound is in your face and loud and garish. I'm not a fan

Overall Score: 52
