NHLPA Hockey '93
The odd numbered ones are badGenre: sports - hockey
Publisher: Elec Arts
Year: 1992
System: SNES
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
I know it's hockey but the slippery movement is a major turnoff. Can't these guys make even slightly sharper turns? B passes and A shoots. On defense B selects the nearest defender and A checks, but it only works 5% of the time so you basically just have to wait for the opponent to miss a pass or shot. The poor framerate limits the fun as it's hard to tell when to shoot or pass. Makes for some inconsistent gameplay and controls. Really hard to score. I know that's hockey for you, but it's not terribly fun. No idea how to set up a scoring play. I like that you can turn off penalties for an arcade feel. Passing is nearly impossible. The puck goes in a seemingly random direction.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Regular Season, Playoffs, and Best of 7 modes. Nothing beyond that tho. Includes an Instant Replay which is welcome after scoring one of the few goals.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
NHLPA but no NHL license. Minimal presentation.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Grainy graphics and blocky, hunched player models. Very choppy framerate to boot.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Meh it's alright I suppose. Pretty boring sounds play in-game. Dorky menu music.
