Ordyne for TurboGrafx-16

Ordyne

Ear dying

Genre: shooter - horizontal

Publisher: NEC

Year: 1989

System: TurboGrafx-16

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Gotta mash not one but two buttons. Holding down the buttons does rapid fire but it's incredibly slow. Painfully slow movement. Mid level shops where you buy powerups that only last for a minute or so. Why is this done in so many of these games? Shots go straight forward so you're limited on who you can attack.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Boring waves of enemies. Long periods of empty space. A few interesting ideas like a pachinko style board you have to fly through, but mostly just boring environments.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Goofy stuff which I like, but it's tame compared to other cute-em-ups.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Looks like a mid 80s shooter. Very simple graphics.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

A few fun compositions but on the whole the soundtrack is basic and hard to listen to. It's not grating, most of the time, but I was glad to hear it stop. The sound effects, on the other hand, are grating. The tink tink tink metallic sound of your every shot makes you limit how often you fire.

Overall Score: 39
