Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures

What. Is. This?

Genre: adventure - point n click

Publisher: Namco

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 0

Gameplay Notes:

I'm not sure how to describe this game. I guess it's an extended escort mission since you don't control Pac-man. Rather you are a set of crosshairs and can shoot things to knock them down for Pac-man to notice and intact with them. He has a mind of his own and rarely does what you want or expect him to do. It's unique, I'll give it that much. But it's also horrible.

Level Design Score: 1

Level Design Notes:

Every interaction and sequence is unique so you can't simply learn what he does in certain situations and silly that learning to future encounters. Instead you have to learn by trial and error and memorize the entire game to proceed. It's like one of those Laserdisk games without the huge flashing arrows telling you what to do.

Theme Score: 1

Theme Notes:

Pac-man as a family man experiencing a range of emotions. Yeah, the yellow puck has a home life. It's like seeing your grade school teacher at the grocery store. Kind of weird

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Impressive artwork and sprites

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Expressive music and sound effects. The whole game is like an exaggerated pantomime so the sounds tell a lot of the story.

Overall Score: 20
