Pieces

Competitive Jigsaw puzzles

Genre: puzzle - blocks

Publisher: Atlus

Year: 1995

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

The gameplay of this game is to complete a 5x4 20 piece jigsaw puzzle as quickly as possible. Obviously, this is done by picking pieces and placing them in the puzzle board. That's...about it. You must pick from three pieces that are randomly selected and placing one incorrectly throws it back into the deck and another piece is selected to become one of the three. It's a competitive puzzle game ala Tetris Attack or Kirby's Avalanche so there's a bit of urgency to do it quickly. There are also a few handicaps you can throw at your opponent, but these hit you more often than not. But yeah, that's the extent of things. It works ok as a 2P game but there's so little game here it's hard to recommend over other competitive puzzle games.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

You can play against the computer or against a human player. Each round consists of 3 puzzles and the first to complete all three is the victor.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Extremely goofy, Japanese humor throughout the intro and the between-round cutscenes. The dialogue and characters are completely off-the-wall.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Eh, it gets the job done. There's certainly nothing impressive but it's not as bland as something like, say, Zoop or Wordtris.
