Shadowrun for Genesis

Shadowrun

Run but no gun

Genre: adventure - overhead

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Objective is to find and take a job to make money. Like an early GTA maybe? However you'll die numerous times before you can accomplish anything. Clunky combat. Presses B to target an event and A to fire but you can't see projectiles and there's a long delay between shots. Nowhere near enough ammo to do anything. Takes about 4 shots to kill an enemy but you only have twelve shots and no easy way to refill.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Love the design where you look for jobs and whatnot although a mask would be invaluable. You pretty much just have to wander around and hope that you can find the place you're going to since nothing is labeled.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

It's a revenge story in a post-apocalyptic Blade Runner-esque futuristic setting. I can dig it.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Extremely dark and gritty art style. Almost no color to speak of. Moves well with no slowdown or anything. Animation and artwork when speaking with NPCs has a distinctive style.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

The music is nice and sound effects are okay. The music matches the setting well.

Overall Score: 53

Review ID: 1226
