Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye
How to not win at a puzzle gameGenre: tabletop - board game
Publisher: Activision
Year: 1994
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Move a cursor, pick matching tiles to remove them, but only if one of the sides of the tiles is free. Uggh, Mahjong is the dumbest game ever. Imagine playing a board game where 90+% of the time you cannot win. Thankfully you can select only winnable boards. There's something therapeutic about clearing a board. It's aggravating most of the time but there's satisfaction in finishing something.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Lots of tiles and layouts. None good but whatever
Theme Score: 0
Theme Notes:
Boring Chinese game. No personality. Just a static board
Art Style Score: 0
Art Style Notes:
Incredibly pixelated, boring artwork with nothing but a board and tiles. You can turn on a background picture of a river with a bridge over it but there's only the one background.
Audio Score: 0
Audio Notes:
Chinese music is super repetitive. Not horrible. Weird random sounds play when you remove a pair of tiles. Examples are an elephant and a fart. Yeah it's weird. Thankfully you can mute all music and sounds
