Street Fighter II: Champion Edition

The measuring stick. For fighting games anyway.

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Capcom

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Maybe it's the controller but I had a hard time executing special moves like a fireball. I'd wind up jumping most of the time. I had to do it so slowly.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Same levels but they have a little more animation and some alternate colors like the sunset in Guile's level.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Same game as before. I like the post fight insults

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

Looks good but a step down from the beautiful colors and animation in the SNES version.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Oh wow the sound is embarrassing. The voices are particularly awful but the music is also garbled and just wrong. Also the sounds are too loud and drown out the music. I dare you not to mute Dahlsim's level. Holy cow. It's terrible. There's something seriously wrong with those poor elephants. I feel bad for any kid who heard this before hearing the arcade or SNES versions.

Overall Score: 74
