Gameplay

What's not to like? These games speak for themselves. SMB 1, 2, and 3 are incredibly high quality platformers that have defined the genre.
The controls are simple: jump and run/attack when you've got a power up.
For some reason very few SNES games have copied the power up system but instead use less understandable hit points. The challenge here greatly differs based on the power up you've got and the game rewards your skill if you're able to keep power ups for a long time. This gives the player incentive to try again and again.

Level Design

This is where these games truly shine. The levels teach the ayer how the controls work and allow the player to gain skills by building on what they know. Skilled players can whizz through levels based on skill and not just memorization. Secrets reward experimentation and the lack of RNG rewards players for getting gud.

Theme

Mario needs no introduction.
Still, this game is a remaster done right. Nothing about the gameplay is altered (thank goodness) but the visuals receive a big upgrade. Ninja Gaiden eat your heart out.

Art Style

Fantastic art.

Audio

As much as I enjoy the music I feel that the original NES games sound better. The compositions haven't changed but the tracks just don't sound quite right.
