Super Off Road: The Baja for SNES
Review #581
Super Off Road: The Baja
Low framerate but high mudflaps
Gameplay
Low framerate
Drive along narrow off-roads that wind through a desert. You don't turn so much as you have to pick which fork of the road to follow. Obstacles include ATVs, deer, and people who make you lose money, but not speed. Hazards like water, fallen logs, and cacti will slow you down, as does driving off-road.
Nitros give a short boost and money bags and nitro canisters are strewn along the road.
I fully expected to dislike this game but honestly it's pretty fun. Would be better as a multiplayer game but it's alright one player. The other drivers are hard to get around and are constantly there which gives the game tension and high stakes. That's the best part imo
Level Design
Unfortunately there are only three tracks and they're all the same. The first one has two 4 min segments and the other two have 4 and 8 respectively. So there's no replay value. This sort of follows the formula from the original game but here there's nothing orognal about the tracks.
Theme
Truck driving in Baja California. Not much personality
Art Style
The trucks look good but animate poorly. Horrible framerate
Audio
Gone are the awesome tunes and sounds from the original. They're replaced by forgettable noise.
