Thunder Fox
The most boring run n gun everGenre: action - gun
Publisher: Taito
Year: 1991
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 2
Gameplay Notes:
Slow movement. Enemies like to stop just outside your melee attack range and knife you from there so you have to skooch in a little closer but invariably take damage in the attempt. Once you pick up a gun this is no longer an issue but since there's limited ammo you sometimes revert back to melee only. You can only shoot straight - no diagonal or up/down. This severely limits the gameplay options. Contra this is not.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Soooooo boring! Just walk to the right and punch or shoot the bad guys who appear one by one. Occassionally an enemy appears on the left but that's about as much variety this game offers. What a snooze.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Terrorists are everywhere. Kill them using one of two shirtless goons who wear blue or red pants. Besides the generic Rambo-like setting, the level intros are minimal as is everything else about the presentation.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Looks like a mid-80s arcade game. Some parallax scrolling in the backgrounds. Decent explosions and effects but very poor animation.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Really dorky music. Not the thumping soundtrack you'd expect from a run n gun. It sounds like elevator music.
