Tick for Genesis

Tick

Prepare to be Ticked off

Genre: action - beat em up

Publisher: Fox Interactive

Year: 1994

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

Beat em up section plays alright. There are two attack - punch and kick. Animations are randomly played on the third hit. Enemies go down quickly. Only a few enemy models. Basically you're just fighting the foot clan. Movement is halting. There's lag between pressing the d-pad and moving so you can't easily make corrections in your placement. It's best to just keep mashing and wait for enemies to come to you rather than making a small correction. The 2D platforming sections are awful. They play like a THQ licensed games with horribly imprecise, laggy inputs. Just a jarring experience to switch between a decent brawler and a horrible platformer.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

Props for variety, but it's all pretty bad. The brawler levels are pretty standard and they drag on way too long with seemingly endless waves of enemies. Basically you run to a spot and then fight bad guys for about 4 mins and then repeat until the level ends without even a boss. The platforming levels can't end quickly enough as they are horrible projectile avoidance simulators like so many of the THQ games.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

I have no nostalgia for the show although I do remember commercials about it. As near as I can tell from this game it's a weird mix of tropes from TMNT, Batman mythos, and Earthworm Jim. Ultimately it's a licensed title from a show I don't remember. Meh

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Major downgrade from the SNES version. The stories look about the same but the effects are much reduced. For example the bus level has minimal background animation as opposed to it being over the top on the SNES. The switch to a 2D platforming section is jarring. Animation is horrible and the character model looks different enough that it looks like two separate games.

Audio Score: 1

Audio Notes:

Music is okay. I guess. It's another downgrade from the SNES. The sound effects and voice samples are super poor quality
