ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron

In my professional opinion, now is the time to panic!

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1993

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Floaty movement. Platforming is a chore. Hard to tell what will damage you vs benign sprites. Gotta touch everything - shake every tree and inspect every platform. One-trick pony. Simple objective - throw a projectile (bottle) at Earthlings. Oh and you can jump. That's it.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

The gameplay is so sparse that the levels are the only interesting aspect of the game. Light platforming which is good because of the poor controls. Every level has the same structure - collect all Earthlings then reach the end of the level. Gets boring fast.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Silly, but over-the-top. You're on a big fetch quest.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Wonderful use of color. Impressive background parallax scrolling effects. Some fun character models but many are over-the-top. Good animation. Busy artwork with tons of foreground elements obscuring your view. Interesting, but mostly obnoxious.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

Some ok tunes.

Overall Score: 44
