Toki: Going Ape Spit

Spit happens

Genre: action - platform

Publisher: Sega

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Incredibly slow movement. It takes 8 second to walk across the length of the screen. Yeah, I counted. Attack by spitting a projectile. Pick up weapon power-ups like a spread or charge shot. These power-ups have a limited time but you spend most of the level with one. Unforgiving. One hit death. Fun despite it's many limitations.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Lots of vertical platforming. Level 3 has you swimming underwater. Tons and tons of blind jumps. Memorization is the name of the game.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Save the girl after you've been turned into a monkey. There area lot of games like this aren't there? The first one that comes to mind is Splatterhouse. There are only a handful of enemies but the bosses are great. They're large and kind of crazy, like a red blob named Belcher who spews the letters BURP.

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Ok the main character is hideous but everything else is pretty good. Well decent anyway. Dark colors.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

A couple of goofy songs. Actually there are only a couple of songs. I wish there were more

Overall Score: 60
