Toughman Contest
Genre: fighting - boxing
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Year: 1995
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Takes a behind the fighter view with you as a green ghost looking thing, like the original Punch Out arcade. It's distracting to say the least. Your opponent attacks so quickly that there's no way to block what he's doing and react to it. The controls are too laggy to do any good either. I'm calling this game nearly unplayable, just like that George Foreman game.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Exhibition and tournament No difficulty levels
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
I vaguely remember the Toughman Contest and the Butterbean character who is on the title screen for this one. At this point it's just a generic fighter with a bunch of no-names. It has some EA features like an Instant Replay, stats, and ringside advice, but I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want an IR feature in a game like this.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Big sprites with good animation and a good amount of variety. The crowd is poorly drawn tho. Humans do no look like that. Also the *ahem* fan service between rounds is a little too well drawn. Don't play while the kids are around.
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
Excellent sound design. The sound effects have umph and title and menu music is good.
