U.N. Squadron

If only it had full turbo

Genre: shooter - horizontal

Publisher: Capcom

Year: 1991

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 4

Gameplay Notes:

Tough as nails but keeps you coming back for more. Slow movement with lots of slow bullets to avoid. Health meter but you die if hit during a brief cooldown period. Powerups have limited ammo purchased between levels. Good controls. A fair amount of slowdown.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Lots of variety. Forested bases, ocean battles, high altitude clouds, caves, and massive flying fortresses. Nothing new but better than the sum of its parts.

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

Unique near-future setting with modern weapons and enemies. Love it. Great presentation with a guy giving you mission briefings while looking at a battle map.

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Great sprites. A facecam showing your pilot's expressions. Beautiful use of color.

Audio Score: 5

Audio Notes:

Some of the best music on the system

Overall Score: 85

Review ID: 655
