Valis for Genesis

Image: MobyGames

Valis

Solo Sailor Moon

Genre: action - hack n slash

Publisher: Renovation Products

Year: 1992

System: Genesis

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

40% draw distance. Upgrade weapon with 1-3 projectiles. Slow movement but a high jump. Poor hit detection.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

Long distances between enemies. Minimal platforming. Just go to the right and kill enemies as they appear on screen.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

You better have a Japanese schoolgirl fetish. Unskippable cutscenes look great but are almost completely silent. Text moves painfully slow. These scenes can last several minutes. Lots of boring exposition. Bonkers anime story about fantasy world, dark world, dream world etc.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

Simple artwork. Barely better than a Master System game. Some parallax scrolling. Bright colors. Nothing impressive. Uninteresting character models.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

The music in levels 1 and 2 had me bopping my head the whole time. They were much faster pace than the game but so good. But then levels 3 and 4 came along and before long I had muted the game. Wow it was awful. So disappointing

Overall Score: 45
