WildCATS: Covert Action Teams, Jim Lee's

Could've been great

Genre: action - beat em up

Publisher: Playmates

Year: 1995

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Punching feels satisfying, collision detection is good, and unlike say The Tick, the levels don’t overstay their welcome. Play as three different characters similar to X-Men Mutant Apocalypse as well as Marvel Superheroes. Each character plays differently which gives some variety.

Level Design Score: 3

Level Design Notes:

First level was pretty boring. A long series of rooms on a dock at night. There was a mid boss with no way to attack him. He just plowed through me in a loader truck. Had to use bombs to stop him. Still have no idea what I was supposed to do instead. The level Kelly going and then just ended. Weird Only three enemy types which don't really go together - a biker dude, a block footed robot, and Darkman. Oh and a few big green aliens. Random.

Theme Score: 2

Theme Notes:

Forgettable X-Men wanna-be comic book superhero team from the 90s.

Art Style Score: 5

Art Style Notes:

Enormous sprites. Very detailed artwork and sprites. Animation is top notch. Late-gen SNES titles that went with pixel art rather than prerendered crap.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Awesome rocking Tommy Tallaricco tunes. Not exactly my jam but quality stuff.

Overall Score: 65

Review ID: 687
