Wimbledon Championship Tennis
Genre: sports - tennis
Publisher: Sega
Year: 1993
System: Genesis
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Stilted movement. It feels like your player is limping around the court. Ball shrinks and nearly disappears when it touches the ground which is when you want to hit it so it's hard to guage how close it is to you. Typical lob, normal, and hard shots, but the hard shot is actually fast in this game. Huge improvement over most other tennis titles. The ball goes where I want it to go. Other than the weird movement I really like the controls and feel of this title.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Only exhibition and a tour mode.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Good presentation. Fanfare plays between games and things move quickly which is appreciated. It feels like a pick-up-and-play sort of game.
Art Style Score: 4
Art Style Notes:
Clean artwork. Sprites are small but shaded and move and animate well. The court isn't just a solid color - it has some detail to it. Nice touches like the ball girls running at breakneck speed and a surprised animation when the ball hits a player.
