World Heroes

Street Fighter On Ice

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Sunsoft

Year: 1993

System: SNES

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

SF2 clone right down to having an analog for Ryu (Hanzo) and Ken (Fuuma) Simplified controls give you only a punch, kick, and throw button although you can double the buttons in the options. The lowest difficulty setting is painfully low. But I appreciate there actually being different levels. Movement is horrible - you slide around like that level in SMB2. The entire game is like playing an ice level. Jumping sends you all the way across the screen so you can't really do a jump-in combo attack. Severe slowdown makes the game nearly unplayable Can't execute a special move without sliding in the direction you're pressing so you wind up moving into an enemy's attack. Super frustrating

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

I was going to praise it for having arenas with side walls that deal damage but after a few fights I realized that there are only two arenas - a boxing ring and a cage with the side wall. It was novel but now I'm bored with the arenas. Story and versus modes

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Bonkers sci fi setting including elements of aliens and time travel in the far flung future. Weird but fun

Art Style Score: 3

Art Style Notes:

Looks good. I like the cartoony artwork. Sprites are large and chunky. Character models are interesting Animation is not great although it might just be the pervasive slowdown

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

It's alright
