Death Brade for SFC

Death Brade

No, it's not about killer hairdos

Genre: fighting - wrestling

Publisher: I'Max

Year: 1993

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Well, it's wrestling game. Once you figure out the controls it's not terrible, but still incredibly tedious. You cna dash to knock the opponent down, punch when you're in close, and once you begin a grapple, which happens randomly, just hold a direction and mash A or B like crazy. Rinse and repeat. The only gimmick is a meter which fills up as you get beat up. Once full you can execute a finishing move during a grapple. This attack takes off about 1/3 of their health so it's OP.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Huge arenas with plenty of space to run. Some have a gimmick like spiked walls to throw the opponent into, but most are just an empty space. Still, they each have a unique, appealing visual design.

Theme Score: 4

Theme Notes:

Monsters, warriors, Greek gods, etc. Seven distinct fighters which give me vibes from Night Warriors or Mace the Dark Age.

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

The sprites are well drawn and well animated. Backgrounds and the arenas also look nice and have details throughout. It's not on the same level of Saturday Night Slam Masters, but I really liked the visual style in this game. I only wish the sprites were a little larger.

Audio Score: 2

Audio Notes:

The music has a Sega Genesis-quality. The composition is good but it's all played by a brass band. Sounds are ok until the end of the round occurs and the crowd screams into your ear. It's awful.

Overall Score: 56
