Final Fantasy V
Octopath Traveler ZeroGenre: rpg - japanese
Publisher: Square
Year: 1992
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 4
Gameplay Notes:
I feel the gameplay takes a step backward by way of the Job and Ability mechanics. Instead of specialists in your party, you can assign jobs which determine the attack and equip capabilities of that character, which in turn allows them to learn abilities. However, you can only use one of these accrued abilities at a time. A few of them are OP, so you really only need to learn a few powerful abilities through a tremendous amount of grinding. And that's really the name of the game here - grind forever. This reminds me of the Octopath Traveler series, which I love, but which also make me pull out my hair with how much grinding is required. Ultimately, it's good, but not as compelling as IV and VI.
Level Design Score: 4
Level Design Notes:
Again, this game's plotlines are interesting but not compelling.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
There are four characters. Four! Gone are the numerous characters from IV and VI. I played it for 20+ years before losing interest.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Looks almost worse that IV.
