Kamen Rider
Indy beats Nazis. Kamen beats mimes.Genre: action - beat em up
Publisher: Bandai
Year: 1993
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Fast movement. Dumb AI makes the game very easy. Enemies move slowly for the most part. Limited moves - just punch, an unreliable grapple, and a slow jump kick. Seems to be some new moves to get but AI can't figure out how. No weapons to pick up. No other points or health either. Bad hit detection. Overall ok if unsatisfying combat. You can switch between a guy in a white suit and the Kamen character but they play the exact same. Basically just a second health bar because you get your health back.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
Lots of verticality. Levels end randomly. Not quite sure what's going on. Small roster of enemies. Tons of short segments. Each level is broken up in a dozen or so which end after only a few waves of enemies. Fun at first, but then tiring as the action is needlessly broken up, destroying the pacing. Still, lots of variety.
Theme Score: 1
Theme Notes:
Goofy 70s Japanese TV show. Does nothing for me. It looks incredibly campy.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Enemies are well drawn but are tiny. About the same size as on Capt America and the Avengers. No effects or animation. Horrible character models. Again the campy setting looks terrible. Most enemies look like they're mimes.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
Decent song, but it's the only one and sounds like a boss fight. This maintains an inflates sense of urgency indefinitely which gets old fast.
Overall Score: 56
