Kamen Rider SD: Shutsugeki!! Rider Machine
Stationary Road RashGenre: action - beat em up
Publisher: Yutaka
Year: 1995
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
The absolute worst controls in any beat em up. You have to hold down on A, press up or down to pick a direction, and B to kick. Between levels you can purchase additional limited use weapons but these are used in the same way - hold down on A (which immobilizes you!) and press another button to fire the weapon. Basically, you need to move to a safe place on the field, hold A to immobilize yourself, and hope that enemies come close enough fo you to hit them. Thankfully the hit detection is VERY generous, but the gameplay just isn't any fun. The gimmick is that you and all enemies are driving along on a road, but the novelty wears off quickly. Seemingly unlimited health.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
The levels have no real features. The backgrounds have little variety - it's just a cityscape - but the levels have no features whatsoever. You just keep driving with no environmental features. There's barely any variety in enemies either.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Mega Man on bikes. You play as the Kamen guy. It's got a cutesy futuristic vibe.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
The characters look straight out of a Mega Man or Bomberman game. Very cute sprites with bright colors. Nice.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
There's a single track that's ok but forgettable and not catchy at all. Grating sound effects.
