Kidou Butouden G-Gundam for SFC

Kidou Butouden G-Gundam

The other Gundam fighting game

Genre: fighting - 1v1

Publisher: Bandai

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 3

Gameplay Notes:

Barely any special moves. I only figured out one per fighter. Biggest problem is that it's so easy to stun lock. When a fighter is knocked down they're vulnerable as they get back up so you or your opponent can simply attack just as the other player gets up. If your timing is right you knock them back down. Slow movement. Imbalance between the fighters. Some have extremely long reach while others have almost no reach whatsoever. Three difficulty settings - Easy is insanely simple, Normal is hard, and Hard is impossible.

Level Design Score: 4

Level Design Notes:

Four modes: Story (fight everyone, but only one round per fight) Versus (2P) Championship (tournament) Team (multi-player tag team)

Theme Score: 5

Theme Notes:

Reminds me of Battle Clash. Cutscenes before and after each match tell the story. Each player has their own interactions. And it's mech-on-mech action! What's not to like?

Art Style Score: 4

Art Style Notes:

The mech designs are excellent, and there are 9 to choose. Minimal animation, but the framerate is good. Colorful graphics. Static backgrounds.

Audio Score: 4

Audio Notes:

Music doesn't have many layers, so it sounds thin, but it's got a nice rhythm. The voice samples are excellent.

Overall Score: 71

Review ID: 1713
