Kidou Senshi V Gundam
Somehow worse than XardionGenre: action - gun
Publisher: Bandai
Year: 1994
System: SFC
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
Incredibly stiff controls and movement. Enemies bounce around like rabbits but you're as grounded and stiff as a log. The controls are counterintuitive as well. Jumping requires both the d-pad and pressing and holding a button. Massive lag while firing your guns or swinging the sword, which has almost no range. Horrible in every way, but technically not unplayable. But man, is this awful.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Each "level" is just an arena where you must face a set number of enemies. Kill one and another spawns in until you've killed the required number. Enemies have as much health as you and hit just as hard, so you literally have zero chance of not dying in every level. The only effective strategy I found is to find a safe spot, crouch, hold out your shield (R) and endlessly fire your laser or machine gun. Moving around guarantees you'll get wrecked, while my strategy is unbearably boring. Terrible, terrible, terrible game design.
Theme Score: 3
Theme Notes:
Well, it's Gundam, so you should know what you're getting. The story takes center stage, although it's told almost exclusively through text that has a terrible translation in the patch I used.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Looks like a very early 16-bit title. Maybe worse than Xardion, if I'm being perfectly honest.
Audio Score: 2
Audio Notes:
The music ain't terrible, and the sounds are ok, if unimpressive.
