Keeper for SFC

Keeper

Match 3 with terrible controls

Genre: puzzle - overhead

Publisher: Bulletproof

Year: 1994

System: SFC

Gameplay Score: 1

Gameplay Notes:

You know the drill - it's a match three where either colors or icons can be matched. The gimmick is movement. You don't control the blocks, but instead must push them around the 5x5 play area. They spawn in randomly and fill in the small space you've got to work with. Movement is slow and moving a block requires a ton of said movement. Imagine playing Panel de Pon, but with Adventure of Lolo's controls. Yeah, it's a nightmare.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

The inclusion of a puzzle mode and a 2P mode saves this from total annihilation, but even these doesn't help improve the horrid gameplay.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

The cute characters are this game's best quality. They're not as endearing as Bomberman, Kickle, or even Lolo/Lala, but it's something.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

The tiles are colorful, but the graphics look decidedly 8-bit.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

The song is a fun, beachy tune.

Overall Score: 33
