Gameplay

Fast eight direction movement. Good stuff.
You only control your hero in battle. You can recruit four other fighters who act on their own. This often results in prolonged fights because they don't concentrate on a single for but it's manageable.
Not much grinding required.
Menus are on a circle similar to Secret of Mana. Easy to find the right menu, even if they're rather ugly.
Buying and equipping stuff isn't great because it doesn't show upgrades but there's an almost auto-equip. Where it quickly cycles through all 5 party members and you only have to mash A to give everyone optimal stuff.

Level Design

Very linear. Easy to know what to do next. Simple but fun. Areas are very small and navigable. No map.

Theme

Four starting characters, each with their own story. Not sure if they come together but there's a lot of replayability here.
There's a lot of humor and lightheadedness, despite some moral themes.

Art Style

Overhead is fine but not spectacular, although the little sprites have more personally than normal. Reminds me of FFVI. Battles look amazing with a ton of animation and dynamic camera movement. The camera also moves around with mundane activities like entering shops, which is rather annoying.

Audio

Great music that wouldn't be out of place in a fighting game. It has a Capcom beat em up quality to it. Love it. However, the sound effects are so obnoxious, especially in menus and in shops. These bring the whole sound design down at least one peg.
