Deko Boko Densetsu
Genre: racing - overhead
Publisher: Telenet Japan
Year: 1990
System: PCE CD
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
The object is to race up the screen in auto-scrolling courses. It plays a bit like R.C. Pro-Am with its forward and reverse weapons for damaging other racers. It does the weird thing where all racers must be on screen, ala Moto Roader. When a car goes offscreen they take damage and are flung forward on the screen. You seem to take way more damage than your opponents, so it's hard to have enough health to cross the finish line. VERY slow movement. You can jump, like in Bump 'n' Jump for NES. Being in first place is a major handicap because you are at the tippy top of the screen and have noly a few pixels worth or notice when an obstacle appears. I have a feeling this is a good time in multiplayer but it's horrible as a one-player game.
Level Design Score: 3
Level Design Notes:
The tracks keep things interesting. There are environmental elements which either slow or stop you and both kinds can be jumped over.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
A very cute, fun atmosphere permeates the game. Weird objects appear everywhere and include everything from cows to dung beetles to bathing girls, robots, and everything in between.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
It's cute and colorful, but decidedly low rez
Audio Score: 3
Audio Notes:
The music is the cherry on top of the adorable theme.
