Doraemon - Nobita no Dorabian Night for PCE CD

Doraemon - Nobita no Dorabian Night
Doraemon in Time
Gameplay
Perfectly adequate platforming, but with slow movement. The jump is just right for the level design. Your only attack is a gun that stuns enemies in the first and second worlds (ala QuackShot) but kills enemies in the third world. That's pretty weird and turns a platformer into a run n gun. It's a jarring change of pace but honestly was welcome. But the mechanics stop there - there's no depth.
This is an easy game. Feels like it was aimed at very young gamers. Health pickups are everywhere and death pits are rare.
Level Design
Hum drum but not bad by any stretch. Each world has four stages followed by a single boss per world. A few of the stages have verticality and branching paths. The stage design kept this from becoming super boring.
Theme
Not my cup of tea, but the cutesy Doraemon crew should appeal to the target audience. Long cutscenes tell the story which is of course in Japanese. The story has you traveling through time to different eras, beginning in the Jurassic period.
Art Style
Like everything else about this game, the graphics are intensely ok. Pixel art is good, of simple, and sprites have minimal animation, but some areas feature lovely parallax and other effects.
Audio
Music isn't my my jam but it's perfectly pleasant. I never felt like muting it. Sound effects are mostly fine although the yipes and screams are annoying but infrequent.
