Gai Flame for PCE

Gai Flame

Man fire?

Genre: strategy - turn-based tactics

Publisher: Masaya

Year: 1990

System: PCE

Gameplay Score: 2

Gameplay Notes:

Plays just like Gaia no Monhou, but with a little more polish, and a doable difficulty. There's still no indiciation of how much damage an attack has dealt, or even how much HP a given unit has, so the game is still maddening.

Level Design Score: 2

Level Design Notes:

There may as well be no different kinds of tiles. Units can move however and wherever they want to. And your units are always placed at the bottom of the screen while the opponent is on top, like a chess board.

Theme Score: 3

Theme Notes:

Mechs are always worth a point or two. But it's a discount Gundam, for sure.

Art Style Score: 2

Art Style Notes:

The map looks okay, although the mech sprites are small and almost cartoony. They look much better during battles and cutscenes, although they're generic as can be.

Audio Score: 3

Audio Notes:

I enjoyed the music quite a bit. It's a solid military march.

Overall Score: 43
