Knight Rider Special
Chase H.Q. reskinnedGenre: racing - vehicle combat
Publisher: Pack-In-Video
Year: 1989
System: PCE
Gameplay Score: 1
Gameplay Notes:
This is a licensed version of Chase H.Q., a series that I hate. It's essentially a cheap OutRun knockoff with a machine gun and touchy controls. There's a boss fight at the end of each level which is near impossible since you can't avoid their attacks.
Level Design Score: 1
Level Design Notes:
Every stage is the same. Only new enemies are added to increase the difficulty, plus the occasional new road hazard. Zero replayability.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
This one hits hard in the nostalgia feels. The horrible translation only adds to the so-bad-it's-good vibe. For the theme anyway.
Art Style Score: 1
Art Style Notes:
Terrible scaling. Other vehicles snap between a tiny dot on the horizon, or a huge sprite right in your face. Everything about this looks like an early 80's arcade game.
Audio Score: 1
Audio Notes:
The opening cutscene has a horribly wonderful rendition of the iconic Knight Rider theme song, but it's all downhill from there. The rest of this game's "music" is a steady stream of single note beats. Mute
