Lethal Enforcers
Hogan's Alley sequel / Time Crisis prequelGenre: shooter - gallery
Publisher: Konami
Year: 1993
System: Sega CD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
The key to this game's success is the generous hitboxes of enemies. The gameplay itself is as simple as could be - shoot enemies and don't hit innocent bystanders. Oh and shoot the bad guys quickly before they can get off their shot. It's incredibly simple and as a result has almost no replayability but it'll hold your interest for 20 minutes. The reload mechanic is surprisingly fun and give the game some much-needed depth. It's something to do anyway. Reminds me of the much-better Time Crisis games that came a few years later. I remember loving that game.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Simple scroll-to-the-right gameplay. Enemies pop up or roll into the frame in consistent spots so memorize the level and you can win every time. The lack of randomness is the game's greatest weakness.
Theme Score: 4
Theme Notes:
You're Dirty Harry. Pretty simple premise.
Art Style Score: 3
Art Style Notes:
Easily the best looking console version of this game. Graphics aren't as colorful as the SNES version but have far superior animation and framerate. The prerendered artwork is an eyesore, but it's better than most of the FMV games on the Sega CD.
Audio Score: 4
Audio Notes:
Fantastic music, voice, and sound effects, including standard Konami arcade sounds
Overall Score: 58
