Master of Weapon
Notice that Weapon isn't pluralGenre: shooter - vertical
Publisher: Taito
Year: 1991
System: MD
Gameplay Score: 3
Gameplay Notes:
Fast movement and powerful spread weapon once powered up, although there's only that one weapon. A special weapon that's hard to use since it changes so often, is clear over on C, and most of its variants are useless. Only the H-Bomb is worth using. Xevious bombs for hitting mostly useless ground targets. Why bother putting this on a second button and make it not autofire? You've got a huge hitbox. Not quite as big as Dragon Spirit, but close.
Level Design Score: 2
Level Design Notes:
Long, boring stages of endless swarms of repeating enemies. Feels more like a Caravan score attack than a real game.
Theme Score: 2
Theme Notes:
Space shooter with no intro and no exciting elements. Enemies repeat so often that it gets mundane.
Art Style Score: 2
Art Style Notes:
Decent performance but boring art and designs. Flat, bring, or straight up dorky design, particularly your ship which looks like a Star Wars Y-Wing made from memory, with Play-Doh. Terrible colors make it difficult to pick out enemies and projectiles from the drab backgrounds.
Audio Score: 1
Audio Notes:
Ok music that at best sounds like The Messenger soundtrack and at worst is a spastic Jazzy mess. The sounds effects, on the other hand, belong in an early 80s arcade game. Think Q*Bert and you won't bust out laughing each time you die or drop a bomb.
